Alishan Oolong Black Tea

A Rare High-Mountain Tea Between Oolong and Black Tea

During our journey through the cloud-covered mountains of Alishan, we discovered a tea we had never encountered before — Alishan Black Tea. One sip was enough to stop us in our tracks. Its aroma was expressive yet elegant, and its flavor was unlike any black tea we had tasted.

What makes Alishan Black Tea truly special is its unique fermentation style.
Rather than following a fully traditional black tea process, this tea is crafted using a fermentation level between oolong tea and black tea. The result is a beautifully balanced profile:
the warmth and sweetness of black tea combined with the freshness, clarity, and layered aroma of oolong.

Grown at high elevation in Alishan’s misty tea gardens, the tea plants develop slowly under constant cloud cover and large day–night temperature differences. These conditions allow the leaves to accumulate rich natural compounds, giving the tea depth, complexity, and a remarkably clean finish.

The dry leaves are well-shaped and tightly rolled. Once brewed, the liquor turns a clear amber-red color. The aroma opens with natural honey notes, ripe fruit sweetness, and a gentle floral lift. On the palate, the tea is smooth and refined — never bitter, never harsh — with a soft body and a lingering, pleasant aftertaste that slowly returns to sweetness.

This is an ideal tea for those who find traditional black tea too strong, yet want more depth than a light oolong. It is comforting without being heavy, expressive without being overwhelming — a tea that feels both distinctive and easy to enjoy every day.

We brought this tea back and selected it for BESTLEAFTEA because it reflects exactly what we value: origin, craftsmanship, and balance. Each cup offers a quiet moment of Alishan’s mountains — the clouds, the cool air, and the calm pace of high-altitude tea making.
